Paint Green Street Purple

Colleges Against Cancer is holding its 4th annual Paint Green Street Purple event on Thursday, September 21st from 7-9:30 pm. Colleges Against Cancer is proud to be the only Registered Student Organization that blocks off Green Street from Wright to Sixth for an all-campus block-party.

This rockin' event will not only include information about Relay For Life (CAC's Signature Fundraiser raising over $205,000 last year alone and $750,000 over our five short years), but also all the opportunities to learn about all of CAC's amazing programs including: Think Pink (our Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign), Great American Smoke Out (promoting a non-smoking lifestyle) and our brand-new Cancer Care Network (a Cancer Survivor and Caregiver Social Group). Obviously, no block party would be complete without entertainment--and we are here to please! We are excited to have joining us Illini Contraband, X-Chords, Girls Next Door, No Comment and the Illini Drumline (groups subject to change). So come out join us for lots of games, food, entertainment, and an evening of fun! See you on the street!

Cancer Care Network

As a part of our survivorship committee, last year our chapter started a new Colleges Against Cancer program called the Cancer Care Network. One of the best parts of Colleges Against Cancer is that it allows students dealing with the grief that cancer can cause a place to meet other students dealing with some of the same issues.

The purpose of the Cancer Care Network is to provide a way to enhance this characteristic of CAC, and to use our collective emotions to support each other as we deal with the impact cancer has had in our lives. Typical Cancer Care Network meetings involve a social activity such a bowling or ice-skating, followed by a low-key discussion at a coffee shop or restaurant. The Cancer Care Network is just getting off the ground and is very excited for an amazing semester! To find out more information about this amazing program, please contact our Cancer Care Network and Survivorship Chair, Caitlin Smith (cksmith@uiuc.edu).
